He’s also weirdly concerned with being liked by the world at large and spends a lot of time trying to make people fans of Radiant Black, as well as make money off it. Marshall’s just not an interesting character to spend time with.
With Nathan in a coma for most of this volume, that aspect is completely missing in the book and the focus instead is on his dreary friend Marshall who lives a completely empty existence where he’s either at Nathan’s bedside at the hospital or failing at his retail job.

One of the aspects of the first book that I found appealing was Nathan struggling to figure out how to become a successful writer.
